BADGERS, BUDGETS AND BALLOTS -Ely W.I.

Ely City WI’s November meeting was certainly filled to the brim.

With Lorraine Jenkins from South East Cambridgeshire Badger Group delivering an informative talk how we can protect badgers; we were treated to some delightful footage as well as facts, figures and truths about these creatures.

The main part of the meeting was the AGM which covered all of our ‘official business’ for another year. With necessary processes to follow; the Treasurer’s Report, Secretary’s Report and President’s Address provided a chance for members to reflect on a very successful (if not busy and full) past twelve months!

Thanks were given to those who support behind the scenes as well as those who participate to make the meetings, events and activities happen. Each individual contributes immeasurably to the success of our group, and we couldn’t be without them.

In addition, the Committee line up for 2022/ 23 was announced with a bit of a ‘cabinet reshuffle’. Ruth Sindall, our Vice President, who has served for 20 years will be stepping down from the role and Maggie Church, Secretary, will also be handing the reins over. Full details on the Committee will be updated on our website in due course https://wielycity.wixsite.com/home .

Finally, the result of the President Nomination Process was announced (overseen by our Guest Tellers Ann and Veronica from the Isle of Ely WI Federation) with Sheila Willson remaining at the helm for another year. Speaking about her continued Presidency Sheila said “I am delighted to be serving Ely City WI again and I want to thank everyone for their kind words and feedback. 2023 is going to be a great year and we have a lot to look forward to”.

As always, the meeting was a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and new. Despite it being more of a formal format than usual meetings, the AGM is an important part of the WI not least of all because our Members are what make it.
