Wicken Coronation Band

Firstly, we would like to say a huge thank you from the Wicken Coronation Band for your kind generosity and support throughout 2024.

During November and December 2024 we were welcomed by many of our local Tesco Superstore’s as we played carols and fund raised to ensure financial stability of the band.

We very much appreciated everyone’s generosity. The carolling sessions also allowed some of our younger members of the band to “take charge” of the event, which is great to see just how much they have developed as players and young adults.

The Youth Band also played at a variety of events including a Christmas Concert and carols at a local Care Home as well as playing carols in the entrance to Ely Cathedral before a carol service. They thoroughly enjoy having their own engagement programme and received such positive feedback from both events. The Wicken Band Christmas Concert in Fordham Victoria Hall, was very well attended. The funds were divided 50/50 between Band funds and “Just George”, a fundraiser for the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group, in memory of a young boy from Soham who passed away in October 2023

We are now looking forward to 2025 and our spring and summer programme.

Our Youth Band, who rehearse on Monday evenings, continues to attract beginners. We currently have nine people of varying ages learning in a variety of locations in the Wicken Methodist Chapel. Teaching is from 7pm until 7:30pm, then the beginners head off home and the Youth Band practice until 8:45pm.

Almost all of the Youth Band players now play in the Senior Band on Wednesday evenings and they are doing a really good job. However, new players would still be welcomed, as the younger players have exams etc that understandably, they need to focus on and several of the older members of the Youth Band will soon be off to university. Whilst we hope they pop back to the Band whenever they are home on holiday, we are always looking for new players to fill the gaps. In particular, we need cornet players, particularly players who would like to attend regularly. If anyone plays or knows someone who plays, please let them know about the Band and how welcoming we are. That said, we hope it goes without saying that anyone wanting to play a different instrument would also be made very welcome,

We already have several engagements booked, which include playing at the Wicken Fete, playing at the Sandringham Visitors Centre and Open Farm Sunday at G’s Barway.
