The City of Ely RBL and VisitEly ran the Inaugural Armed Forces Day event on Sunday 26 June on Palace Green. Participants included;
1094(City of Ely) Air Training Corps with a great display of their outstanding work with their cadets, ejection seat and a 1969 Land Rover.
Cambridgeshire and Suffolk RBL riders branches bought a number of bikes, trikes and scooters. Cambridgeshire Regiment Association with a display of the history of the regiment.
Ely District Girl Guides and Ely Scouts displayed some of the work of the Girl Guides and scouts.
The Poppy Appeal presented some of the items currently available through the appeal whilst City of Ely RBL member, Stan Gearing, displayed some historical artefacts from his home.
A 1967 Land River Field ambulance was supplied by Little Downham resident, Roy Pearson and his wife. Whilst St Johns Ambulance provided medical cover and demonstrated some life saving techniques.
Our Most Worshipful Mayor, Cllr Richard Morgan, met all participants and took to practicing some CPR with the St John’s Ambulance staff.
A great day was had by all and we look forward to making the next Armed Forces Day event a bigger event next year.
